Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v Tablet Review

Samsung 10-inch tablet debuted to the public for the first time at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona earlier this year. Samsung was not present for the CeBIT 2011 in Hannover, also had no view of the sample simultaneously Roadshow, but the mobile operator, Vodafone, was a device to counter.

There is talk of Vodafone: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v is shared only with the layout of the hardware device from Vodafone in Germany until the downside. However, there is no SIM lock. As for equipment, given the current rate monotonic. In addition to a brilliant 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and 160 dpi, 2 Nvidia Tegra system on a chip (SoC) based on ARM RAM and 1 GB of work inside.

GBS is a memory 16 from the factory available for music, movies, software and other content. You are not spoiled the UMTS business in this tablet, because there is no WiFi available model in the table. Before coming to the price, the unit is another interesting feature: It is an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus.

Suggested retail price for this package complete 16 GB is a steep € 660. Galaxy Tab 10.1v, however, is available from EUR 550 different retailers, the latest price comparisons. Therefore, it is once again within the limits and can not compete with Apple iPad 2

Specifications Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v :
  • Processor : NVIDIA Tegra 250 1 GHz
  • Memory : 1024 MB, onboard
  • Display : 10.1 inch 16:10, 1280x800 pixel, 160 DPI, capazitive touchscreen, glossy: yes

  • Weight : 0.574 kg Power Supply: 0.065 kg

Connectivity
Pages accommodation reveal no surprises, and many of the interfaces are not installed. Except for the usual headphone jack, for connecting a headset is just a 30-pin connector for charging the device or by connecting the adapter. Product Package, Model EPL 1PLR, and a USB port and card reader cost about 30 euros and can be purchased separately.

In essence, in particular, to lose a microSD card reader or SD memory cards, plus a USB port. More recently, more subtle, and at the same time, the Samsung Card Galaxy 10.1 Android 3.1 (without the 'v' Vodafone) have achieved in this sector.

Case
The tablet comes in "metallic silver" after shopping. The anthracite, silver and black to a modern and at the same time, printing plain appealed to us. They also feel looks good and is not marked by the plastic used. A small error in our sample are irregular hole edges in the volume rocker.

A bonus point is rubberized, textured Flipside, which also offers perfect ergonomics with two depressions. This prevents the device from slipping easily into your hand. HTC Flyer Apple iPad tablet or 2 with the aluminum part to see more high quality, where this principle always be a matter of taste.

Tab Galaxy will remain within the limits and 10-inch device size of about 24.6x17x1.1 cm and the total weight of 576 grams. Comparison of Xoom or iPad Motorola 2 are a bit 'heavier by 730 grams, 601 grams respectively. 10.1v can not be carried around in a pants or coat pocket and holding it becomes uncomfortable quickly, unlike the HTC Flyer smaller, with 7-inch screen (430 grams). Cases, stability can not leave anything to be desired. It could be just a little 'convoluted, and not popping or cracking can be detected.

Performance
The popular Nvidia Tegra 2 (Tegra 250) System-on-a-chip (SoC) based on an ARM processor working inside Galaxy Tab 10.1v. Power at 1 GHz is divided into two nuclei with this solution (dual core), which is backed by a 1 MB cache.

As it is called a SoC, the most vital hardware like processor, graphics card, the GSM and UMTS chipset, is located on a block. Many other manufacturers of tablets that come with Android 3.0 also comes with a Nvidia solution. Examples would be Xoom Motorola, Dell Streak 7 "or Acer Iconia Tab A500 Tablet / MID we tested extensively.

We are looking closer to the behavior of the processor clock with the instrument, the light of the CPU, which is available in the Android Market. In addition, the maximum power of 1000 MHz, the system adjusts the speed requirements.

608 MHz and 216 MHz, which saves energy and prolongs battery life, has often been used in daily use. Built-in 16 GB of SSD memory and 1024 MB of DDR2 RAM of other components of the nuclear system.

2 Tegra SoC to provide good interaction with the Google Android 3.0 is a set of parameters. We will take the Table Top Market Comparison browser with an overall score of 93 250 points. Comparable formations follow a relatively short distance. The difference increases when the Acer Iconia Tab A500, though.

The difference between the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 is about 17.9% in this test (76,540 points). This image is reinforced in Google V8 benchmark, and the tablets / Nvidia Tegra MID 2 is almost the same level. Fujitsu Stylisitic Q550 Windows 7 operating system to ensure a clear victory in this test and the difference is 10.1v 63.1% (591 points).

The test device is reappointed to a leading position in Linpack Mflops 53376 Pro exceeds the smallest and HTC Flyer 7 ". Xoom Motorola sharp decline is striking because it carries only 34,514 points (-35.3%). Quadrant and Smartbench 2011 confirms that the material is so far a positive image. And it is again confirmed in the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark.

We only want to deal with the difference that Samsung Galaxy Lose 7 ", next to the small differences in the configurations comparable. The tablet with Tegra 2 has a performance of 8234 seconds at the end of our relationship and the difference to the Galaxy 10.1v is 74.9% (2.07 seconds).

Samsung RF511 Review

Quad ATVs. Samsung responds to strong demand in the previous model, RF510, RF511 called a revision. The graphics and processor performance have been improved to a quad core and Fermi, the perfect SUV.

Although Samsung has released anything new on the market in terms of appearance (see RF510), the RF511 is, however, to date in terms of technology. In addition to the Core i7 2630QM, Intel Quad Core with the best price-performance, Nvidia Geforce GT game can do its job 540M in the case. The matte WXGA display, every day of the event, however, proper lookout elegant is attractive to many buyers.

RF511 will be the benefits sufficient to justify the relatively high price of 959 euros (cheaper version available)? + Quad GT 540m hardware is made available in the Aspire 5750G, Asus X53SV, HR-275GE Packard Bell TS11), the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560p and Toshiba P750-100685-729 euros. Can a professional, ergonomic shape and dim view of all this? We show the advantages (few) disadvantages of RF511.

Performance
2630QM Quad Core i7 to 4 x 2.0 GHz (standard clock) is installed in many laptop computers, thanks to its good performance in the money ratio (price of laptop computers are beginning to 700 euros). When necessary, it can be overclocked to 2.9 GHz via Turbo Boost (kernel).

Included in 3000 warrants HD graphics (relatively) economical to use the battery, but not the GPU performance is needed. NVIDIA GeForce GT 540 (2048 MB) is automatically disabled in the Nvidia Optimus.

The CPU tests, Cinebench R11.5 (Multi, 64-bit) 4.18 minutes (default), an increase of 4.36 points (speed mode). "Similar" in 2630QM Fujitsu NH751, however, has reached 4.83 points, up 5.0 points are possible Aspire 7750G-TZ083V G73SW or Asus. That said, the RF511 is a relatively weak performance of the data, while the CPU. Cause: The other devices (all 17 inches) can apparently take advantage of the overhead of dynamic frequency (Turbo 2.0) for longer due to a larger cooling system. This is the time that the CPU clock above 2.9 GHz, so for more than a reference to the turbo.

Samsung Series 5 Chromebook

First Netbook. Is Google's Chrome browser enough to be happy in the Web-world? We logged into our Google account. How much Office is actually possible with this browser? Do Google Docs, Picasa and DropBox suffice? Found out in our review.

The first true netbook. The netbook class developed as a simple mobile computer capable of carrying out marginal Office programs whilst serving as a player and web browser. Since 2007, manufacturers have brought countless netbooks of this ilk to the market. But have the Eee-PCs and the other Windows-minis really done their job?

Yes, yes they have. But in serving the simple task of “Web-surfing”, the entire Windows infrastructure was dragged along in the process. One should consider that in order to merely surf the Internet and read emails, the user had to, and still has to fight off viruses and Trojans, go along with Windows updates and put up with long booting times. Couldn’t it be a bit simpler?

It can be with the Linus-based Chrome OS of our Samsung Chromebook (Series 5 500C21). The user is confronted with nothing more than the familiar Chrome Web browser. Is this enough for a fulfilling web-experience? Can the Chromebook replace a Windows netbook? Find out the answers in this review.

Specifications Samsung Chromebook Series 5
  • Processor : Intel Atom N570 1.66 GHz
  • Mainboard : Intel NM10
  • Memory : 2048 MB, 1 x 2048 MB DDR3
  • Graphics adapter : Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150
  • Display : 12.1 inch 16:10, 1.366x768 pixel, 300 cd/m², glossy: no
  • Harddisk : 16GB SSD, GB
  • Soundcard : none
  • Connections : 2 USB 2.0, 1 VGA, Audio Connections: Kopfhörer, Mikrofoneingang, über einen Anschluss, Card Reader: MMC, SDHC, SDXC, SD, TPM Modul
  • Networking : 802.11a/b/g/n (abgn), 3G Modem
  • Optical drive : none
  • Size : height x width x depth (in mm): 19.9 x 294.2 x 219.5
  • Weight : 1.485 kg Power Supply: 0.165 kg
  • Battery : Lithium-Ion, 6 cell 8200 mAh
  • Price : 450 Euro
  • Operating System : Google Chrome OS
  • Additional features : Webcam: 1.3MPixel SVGA, Mini-VGA auf VGA D-Sub Adapter, 24 Months Warranty.
Performance
Samsung relies on an Atom N570 CPU with two cores (2x1.66GHz) for its 2011 netbook. The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150 as well as a memory controller for DDR3 (1x2.048 MB) are integrated into the CPU. The TDP is around 8.5 watts. The CPU is something of a descendent of the often used Atom N550 (2x1.5 GHz), which is found in many consumer netbooks. The memory of the Chrome OS (Linux) is only available through a single non-sensitive 16 GB Flash memory (SSD). But this isn’t intended to save the user’s data.

We tested the application performance of the browser with the SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark 0.9.1:1517 ms (the smaller, the better). As a comparison, the Windows-based Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 (Atom Z670 1.50GHz) we tested at the same time needed 1907 ms (+25%). The result speaks for the energy savings of the Chrome OS on the Samsung.

We dared to carry out a further benchmark with the Peacekeeper (Futuremark) Browser Benchmark. The browser benchmark tracks its speed with computing Java script functions. We got 1.373 points (version 12) with the Chromebook. But the Windows System Stylistic Q550 with a very similar system (Atom Z670 1.50GHz, 30GB SSD, Intel GMA 600, Chrome Version 12) got an even better 1653 points. The Chromebook looses out in areas like social networking and complex graphics. This could be because of the slow GMA 3150 (200 MHz) instead of the GMA 600 (400 MHz).

Samsung N150 Verizon

Low-performance, low-cost "netbooks" remain a popular computing solution for many consumers and business professionals despite the fact that these little laptops lack the capabilities of full-featured notebooks. Why bother with a netbook when you can just use a smartphone? Verizon Wireless believes the large keyboard, physically larger screen, USB ports and Windows 7 interface are all reasons to buy the Samsung N150 netbook. Oh, and let's not forget that you can buy it for $30 with a two-year contract and stay connected to the internet anywhere the Verizon network has coverage.

Our Samsung N150 (NP-N150-HAV1US) features the following specifications:
  • Intel Atom N450 processor (1.66GHz)
  • Windows 7 Starter (32-bit)
  • 10.1" WSVGA (1024 x 600), Non-Gloss, LED Back-lit display
  • 1GB DDR2 RAM
  • 160GB hard drive (5400rpm)
  • Wired Ethernet LAN: 10/100 LAN
  • Wireless LAN: 802.11b/g/n
  • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • 1.3-megapixel webcam
  • Verizon Wireless 3G GOBI 2000 with VZAccess Manager software
  • Verizon Wireless SIM Card
  • 6-cell battery
  • Dimensions: 10.4 x 7.4 x 1-1.4 inches
  • Weight: 2.75 pounds
  • Price: $469 or $29.99 with 2-year contract from Verizon
Build and Design
The design of the Samsung N150 is, in a word, "average" for a modern netbook. The matte black exterior combined with a burgandy red stripe of color around the edges delivers a simple consumer-oriented netbook appearance with a touch of business class. The plastics used in the construction of the chassis are high quality enough to avoid creaking sounds when you squeeze the netbook, but the plastics are thin enough that you feel that netbook flexing under the pressure of your fingertips.

The screen lid provides a similar level of protection when compared to the plastics in the rest of the netbook. If you press firmly on the back of the display you will start to see distortions on the screen, but the lid is strong enough to protect the display while the N150 rattles around in your briefcase or purse. The N150 feels relative sturdy when the netbook is completely closed and the screen hinges offer enough resistance to make you feel like you're getting your money's worth. On the inside the keyboard feels solid in its tray with very little flex or movement. The palmrest also holds up well, although if you have adult-sized hands your palms will hang over the front edge of the netbook and almost rest on your lap or the desk surface depending on where you work.

Taking a look at the bottom of the Samsung N150 reveals this is one of the least upgrade-friendly netbooks we've seen. Most netbooks have one massive access panel on the bottom of the laptop or two smaller panels that allow you to remove the RAM and the the hard drive in order to upgrade these components yourself. The N150 only features a small panel over the RAM slot allowing you to upgrade the RAM. Accessing the hard drive and wireless cards requires you to completely disassemble the netbook.

That being said, it's doubtful that the majority of people buying this netbook from Verizon will upgrade any component ... even adding a 2GB stick of RAM is unlikely for most N150 owners.

Samsung NC215S

The Samsung NC215S was unveiled at the Africa Regional Forum in Nairobi, Kenya and will be released in the US on the 3rd of July with a suggested retail price of $399, according to reports. If you are into green living and sunlight, this solar powered notebook will definitely catch your attention.

The Samsung NC215S looks much like other notebooks in its class but with one notable distinctive feature: It has solar panels that are directly integrated into the unit’s lid. The NC215S will run Windows 7 and Samsung claims that it will be able to offer a battery life of up to 14.5 hours with its 6cell battery and the solar power. The solar panels is said to be able to give you one hour of extra battery life for every 2 hours of sunlight.

The new notebook offers a conventional notebook configuration with a 10.1in, 1024 x 600-pixel matte display (enabling you to use it even in the sunlight) and a weight of 1.3kg. An Intel Atom N570 (1.66 GHz) dual-core processor, 1GB of Ram and a 250GB or 320GB drive are the device’s main features.

Now , In November 2009 Samsung launched the Blue earth phone, that also used solar power and gave 10 minutes of use for one hour of sun exposure , the phone , however, turned out not to be too popular as the functions turned out to be very limited. Let hope that the NC215S will prove to be a step in the right direction for this technology.

Specs:
* 1.6GHz N570 Intel Atom dual-core processor;
* 50GB of storage,;
* and 1GB of RAM ;
* 2.9 pound weight;

Samsung R540

The R540 was tested by us and excelled when placed against similar systems in terms of processor performance, overall system performance, and did reasonably well in our storage tests. To give you an example, the included Core i3 CPU did better than the Dell Inspiron 15R and the system outranked the Lenovo G560 (budget notebook) in terms of overall performance. This system would be good as a general use notebook and will react quickly for every day tasks but should not be considered for modern gaming.

In our review of the R540 we also liked the full-sized keyboard with a mix between Chiclet-style and traditional keys. We said the keyboard feels solid, did not flex, and works decently well. The touchpad is also good; it features some basic multi-touch features such as pinch-to-zoom.

Our Samsung R540-JA02 review unit has the following specifications:

15.6-inch 720p (1366x768) glossy panel with LED backlighting
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i3-370M dual-core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3, 4.8GT/s QPI, 35W TDP)
Intel HM55 chipset
Integrated Intel HD graphics
4GB DDR3-1066 dual-channel RAM (2x 2GB)
500GB 5400RPM Western Digital hard drive (WD5000BEVT)
Atheros AR9285 802.11n wireless LAN
DVD burner (TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633J)
1-year limited warranty
6-cell battery (11.1V, 4000mAh)
Weight: 5.29 lbs.
Dimensions: 14.9” x 10.1” x 1.17~1.42”
MSRP: $699.99

This R540 model has entry-level specifications; competing notebooks with a similar configuration can be had for $100 - $150 less online. The R540 is also offered in a higher-end configuration featuring a Blu-ray drive, low-end ATI Radeon graphics card and a more powerful Core i5 processor for MSRP $999.99 (a little on the pricey side).

Build and Design
The R540 has a generic design with an attractive-looking faux aluminum finish. Design features are minimal; the R540 does not even have volume up/down buttons. The notebook is constructed entirely of plastic; as a result it weighs only 5.29 lbs. The chassis has an average thickness for a 15.6” notebook at about 1.4 inches. The R540 is covered in mostly glossy plastic, which smudges up quickly and is difficult to clean.

The build quality of the R540 is below average. The chassis of our review notebook was warped; the notebook did not sit evenly on a flat surface. The plastic covering the top of the notebook flexes easily under slightly more than normal pressure. Additionally, the entire chassis seems to cave downward when pressure is applied on the top of the notebook, indicating the internal frame lacks strength. Rounding out the list, the chassis flexes easily when twisted by the corners; flex is bad because it allows the circuit boards inside the notebook to bend. Circuit boards subjected to bending will not last that long.

The lid shares the lackluster build quality; it flexes easily when gripped by the corners. Ripples appear on the screen when pressure is applied from behind; the screen is not well protected. Overall, even for a budget notebook the R540 falls short of expectations.
